The University of Southern Queensland has been engaging with community and all levels of government to build a shared vision for the establishment of a synthetic athletics track at the university’s Ipswich campus. The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games presents a significant need for young people in Ipswich and surrounding regions to have access to quality sporting infrastructure to enable sport participation at the highest levels. Ipswich City Council supports the Go For Gold funding submission which has been prepared by the University of Southern Queensland and Bremer State High to advance the first stage of this infrastructure development.

The development of a full size 400m synthetic track at the university’s Ipswich campus would complement other strategic investments into the city’s infrastructure and meet the aims of all levels of government to enable healthy and active communities, increase sporting participation and aspirations, provide facilities that attract visitors from surrounding regions and support local clubs.

This new infrastructure would position Ipswich to support the Games in delivering an alternative venue for training as an existing Games host city. Complemented with accessibility to public transport, on-site parking and eatery, traffic management, and 24/7 security illustrates the commitment to site activation for the community and its broader use and benefits.
